DONGWEI WU

Dr. Dongwei Wu is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan). He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Jinan University and then pursued his doctoral studies at the Technical University of Berlin, where he obtained his Ph.D. (summa cum laude).

After completing his doctorate, Dr. Wu remained at TU Berlin as a Postdoctoral Researcher and concurrently served as the Leader of the In Vitro Liver and Cancer Model Team, working in the group of Prof. Jens Kurreck at the Department of Applied Biochemistry. In 2024, he was awarded the Dimitris N. Chorafas Foundation International Prize (Chorafas Prize), the Hamburg Research Prize, and the Young Scientists Travel Award from the European Society for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EUSAAT), in recognition of his research contributions in 3D bioprinting and in vitro organ models.

Dr. Wu’s research focuses on intelligent biomanufacturing and regenerative medicine, covering cutting‑edge areas such as 3D bioprinting, volumetric printing, organoids and organ‑on‑a‑chip platforms, drug screening, and toxicological evaluation. He pioneered the SF‑DIW (sacrificial‑free direct ink writing) technology and a high‑throughput micro‑organ platform, enabling the efficient construction of high‑fidelity perfusable human organ models alongside high‑throughput organ models. His work has been published in authoritative journals including AFM, IJEM, and Biofabrication. He has published 28 SCI‑indexed papers with over 1,000 total citations, and holds 2 European patents and 4 Chinese patents.
