Biography

Dr Zishun Liu is currently a Professor in the International Center for Applied Mechanics, Xi’an Jiaotong University. Dr Liu received B.Eng., M.Eng. degrees in Applied Mechanics and Solid Mechanics from Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), and M.Eng., Ph.D. degrees in Solid Mechanics from the National University of Singapore (NUS). He served on the faculty of XJTU between 1986 and 1994, and as Senior Scientist, Scientist, Senior Research Engineer, Capability Group Manager, Team Leader at Institute of High Performance Computing, Singapore (IHPC) from 1999 to 2012. He is now Sanqin Chair Professor of XJTU, Executive Director of Int. Center for Applied Mechanics and Chairman of Academic Committee of School of Aerospace Engineering in XJTU. He also holds Adjunct Professorships in NUS. Prof. Liu is also the Fellow members: the Fellow of International Association of Advanced Materials, the Fellow of International Association of Applied Mechanics; the Fellow of Singapore Association of Computational Mechanics. 

        Dr Liu is an active member of various leadership roles in editorial boards and professional communities as follow: Dr. Liu is an Editor-In-Chief of Int. Journal of Applied Mechanics and an Editor-In-Chief of Int. Journal of Computational Materials Science and Engineering. The editor of Journal of Mechanics of Material and Structures; Associate editor of Journal of Applied and Computational Mechanics. He also serves on a few editorial boards, including Editorial board member of IJCM; IJSSD; AMS; AMSS; MSE; CSM; CJAM etc. Dr. Liu currently hold leaderships:  General Secretary of Int. Association of Applied Mechanics (IAAM) (registered president); Honorary President of Singapore Association of Computational Mechanics; General Member of the International Association for Computational Mechanics (IACM).

Work Experience

March 1986 - August 1994: He has been a teaching assistant, lecturer and associate professor at Xi 'an Jiaotong University
August 1994 - March 1996: He has been a research scholar and research assistant at the National University of Singapore
April 1997 - May 1999: Senior Research Engineer, Research Scientist, Senior Scientist, IHPC (A*STAR), Singapore
April 2005 - July 2012: He is the Deputy Director of the Solid Mechanics Research Department, the Director of the Engineering Mechanics Research Department and the Director of the Soft Matter Research Department at IHPC

He worked as a visiting scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Metal Research in Germany in 2005 and at the University of Glasgow in the UK in 2006 and 2008.
