Abstract

Annealing of proton‐exchanged planar optical waveguides in z‐cut LiNbO3 fabricated using stearic acid has been studied systematically. The effects of annealing on waveguide propagation loss, surface index change, and waveguide depth were measured as a function of annealing time, and were found to follow a power‐law relationship. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
