Abstract
The dynamics response of a simply supported sandwich beam subjected to a suddenly applied loading is investigated. The effect of transverse shear deformation and rotary inertia in both the core and faces of the sandwich beam is taken into account. The governing equations of motion are derived from the principle of virtual displacement. The free vibration problem of the sandwich beam is treated first, and the method of superposition of the normal mode is employed to analyze the dynamic response. For a given loading impulse, numerical results are presented herein.
