Abstract
The micro-back-extrusion forming process of a Zr55Cu30Ni5Al10 bulk metallic glass (BMG) in its supercooled liquid state was studied. Based on the understanding of rheological properties of the BMG, the optimum conditions for extrusion were found to be a temperature of 725 K and an extrusion strain-rate of ∼1 × 10-2 s-1. Finite-element analysis was used to obtain the corresponding extrusion speed. As a result, a three-dimensional cup-shaped object with wall thickness of 0.05 mm was successfully produced.
