Abstract

Optical waveguides in z-cut MgO: LiNb03 fabricated by the proton-exchange process using phosphoric acid have been characterised. The waveguide exhibits a graded index profile with a surface index change of 0145 measured at 0-633 µm. The diffusion rate is slower than that of undoped LiNb03.
