Abstract

Glass transition behaviour of some metallic glasses can not be studied and observed by conventional DSC due the fact that they are closely followed by crystallization. However the newly developed temperature modulated DSC can separate these two transformations. Four metallic glasses, La55Al25Ni10Cu10, Mg65Zn35, Nd60Fe30Al10 and Zr30Y30Al15Ni25, haye been studied by a temperature modulated differential scanning calorimetry (MDSC). It is clearly demonstrated that the glass transition can be separated from crystallization by the MDSC. Two glass transitions have been observed for Mg65Zn35, Nd60Fe30Al10 and Zr30Y30Al15Ni25. Due to clearer observation of glass transition, the calculation ot reduced glass temperature Trg can now be obtained with greater confidence.
